Tip 1 - Make sure all window and door locks are used and locked when your home is empty

Tip 2 - Make sure every external door has a sturdy and well installed dead bolt lock

Tip 3 - If you have sliding glass doors make sure they are secured with a dead bolt lock

Tip 4 - If you have basement windows secure them with grilles or grates

Tip 5 - Give a spare key to someone you trust as opposed to leaving a key under a doormat or in a flower pot

Tip 6 - Install a peephole in all entry doors so you can see who is outside without opening the door

Tip 7 - Install bright outside lights and put them on a timer switch

Tip 8 - When on holiday, create the effect that people are in your house.  Have lights on timer switches

Tip 9 - Make a list of your valuables, jewellery, etc. Take photos of your items and list their serial numbers
